MAKERFEST

Explore the Future of Automation!

Step into the exciting world of artificial intelligence with the Advanced MakerLab – AI: Machine Vision program, a hands-on, 6-month journey where students learn to automate real-world tasks using digital image processing. Guided by industry mentors, students dive deep into cutting-edge AI concepts like face detection, object recognition, and more as they build their own AI-driven projects. All projects culminate at MakerFest 2025, where students compete for top honors. The competition includes five (5) Major Awards, judged by industry experts, and one (1) Most Popular AI: MV project voted by visitors and one (1) Best Presentation judged by panel of judges.

New in 2025 – The AI Vision Quest debuts as part of the AI: Machine Vision track. In this challenge, teams train Huskylens cameras to recognize simple images displayed in a randomized 3×3 grid. With accuracy and optimization as key criteria, the grid creates a visible arena where technical mastery turns into public achievement.

The Top 3 teams will be specially awarded for their performance.

The MakerLab Secondary School Program: Unleash Innovation!

In this dynamic 6-month program, students from secondary schools take on the exciting Instructables Project. Teams of 4 students each are guided by industry and PSC mentors throughout the project’s development. It all begins with project selection from a provided list. Once selected, students acquire materials and follow instructables.com instructions diligently to bring their innovative products to life.

The journey culminates at MakerFest 2025, alongside PISF 2025, where completed projects compete for top recognition. School teams showcase their creations to esteemed judges, and the Instructables Project Champion is announced at the PISF 2025 award ceremony on 9 November at SPICE CONCOURSE Stage.

Projects are also open to public voting for the coveted Most Popular Project Award.

Join us in celebrating innovation and young talent!

Unleash Your Inner Engineer with the Advanced MakerLab 4X4 RC Car Challenge!

Over 6 months, Advanced MakerLab schools take on the ultimate engineering adventure — designing, building, and racing their very own 4×4 RC cars using their MakerLab resources. Along the way, students explore mechanics, electronics, coding, and physics while creating one-of-a-kind machines from the ground up.

The journey culminates at MakerFest 2025, where teams put their cars to the test on a challenging 2-day track. Speed, control, and durability decide who claims the coveted top prize!

Competitions include:
1. Rampage Rumble Challenge – An adrenaline-pumping obstacle course featuring 27 tracks by PSC plus 2 student-designed courses.
2. Drift & Dash Challenge – A two-part race: high-speed action followed by a new self-driving test in 2025, where the 4×4 must autonomously avoid obstacles and race to victory.
3. Most Popular Car & Track – Visitors vote for their favorite, with some even getting behind the wheel for a test run!

Don’t miss the grand finale at the PISF 2025 Award Ceremony, 9 Nov @ SPICE Concourse, where the champions will be crowned and future innovators celebrated.

This year’s Penang International Science Fair will spotlight the creativity and innovation of students from Sekolah Orang Asli in Perak through the MakerLab Showcase. The program has introduced makerspaces equipped with tools for coding, microcontrollers, 3D design, and 3D printing—bringing quality STEM education to underserved communities. It also marks the first time PSC has set up a MakerLab outside of Penang, made possible with the support of Micron.

Over the past year, students from SK Kg Kenang and SK RPS Banun have taken part in workshops and hands-on project building. At PISF 2025, students will present their inventive projects, alongside cultural showcases that highlight Orang Asli heritage and traditions. The Showcase celebrates the remarkable journey of these students, proving that with access, guidance, and imagination, innovation can thrive anywhere.

Explore how Artificial Intelligence learns, processes information, and generates outputs at the Experience AI booth. Take part in engaging, hands-on activities that introduce students to Generative AI and the process of training AI models.

At the DIY Corner, explore AI generative applications and experiment with building and testing your own machine learning models using Machine Learning for Kids.

Learn, play and experience the power of AI your way!

InclusiveSTEM Showcase, where the hard work and creativity of these young minds will be on full display. Visitors are invited to witness students demonstrate their STEM toolkits, featuring everything they’ve learned. It’s an inspiring opportunity to see how, with the right support, students with hearing, physical, and learning disabilities—including autism and ADHD—can flourish in STEM and even become the innovators of tomorrow. Come and be part of this celebration of talent, potential, and inclusivity in STEM!

Back by popular demand, the MacMaker Pop-Up Challenge returns to PISF 2025!

Launched in 2024 as a walk-in challenge for kids, teens, and families, MacMaker quickly became a crowd favourite—inviting everyone to put their creativity, problem-solving, and maker spirit to the test. Participants of all ages had the chance to design, build, and compete in quick-fire challenges that blended fun with hands-on STEM learning.

This year, the excitement continues with a brand-new Pop-Up Challenge for walk-in challengers—details will be revealed soon. (hint: it involves an egg and lots of imagination!).
